Since it's unchecked, Java does not force us to handle or declare it. Short shortVal null Long longVal shortVal null null : (long) shortVal Since you dont seem to know about casting, heres an example that does not work - and how to fix it. Java throws NumberFormatException an unchecked exception when it cannot convert a String to a number type. ![]() It is about masks which i do not know a lot of things. Plain simple 'casting' and the 'ternary conditional operator' would be the minimal and fastest solution. If the string does not contain a valid integer then it will throw a NumberFormatException. Use Integer.parseInt () to Convert a String to an Integer This method returns the string as a primitive type int. We can convert int numeric value to Long object by creating an object of Long wrapper class. In Java, we can use Integer.valueOf () and Integer.parseInt () to convert a string to an integer. The only way to do that is with a piece of code that i found which does the opposite thing ( from int to string ) but i do not understand how to change-convert it. Converting Int to Long object in Java using Long.valueOf() method. Then i tried it with parse-Long and it was okay but after that when i get this integer i have to send it to another class which can receive only integers, as a result i do casting from long to int and i get back a negative integer again. I have already tried to do it with parse-Int but if the most significant value is 1, i get back a negative number and i do not want that. We can also use the toIntExact() method of the Math class to convert the long value into an int. ![]() Convert Double to String in VB78824 hits. Example 2: long to int conversion using toIntExact(). Prices on flash drives are sporadic depending on availability. KESU also isn’t the big brand that SanDisk and Corsair are, but this drive has had decent reception and we think it’s a fine option for those after a budget 1TB drive. That means that instead of being able to plug the drive in straight from the pen, you need to carry around a USB cable to put into the drive and your PC.įor some of you, this might be a deal-breaker as we know a big part of buying a pen drive is the ultra-portability. ![]() The downside? Well because this is an external SSD, the input on the drive is female as opposed to male like the rest of the one-terabyte USB flash drives on this list. This drive has higher read/write speeds than any pen drive on this list (despite being one of the cheapest options) with up to 540MB/s on both. However, the reason we’re presenting this KESU offering (and an even smaller alternative at the bottom of the list) is that it’s tiny for an SSD. External SSDs are usually faster readers/writers but are significantly bulkier & heavier. Traditionally, this battle would be decided by size vs speed. We know that this is a list for the former, but we think that a lot of you will actually prefer this solution, so wanted to present it to consider. OK so, this isn’t a USB thumb drive, but a solid-state drive. The problem lies in its read speeds at 150Mb/s, a notable decrease if this, however, isn’t a big concern for you, the Luxe is a great alternative.īest Cheap 1TB Pen Drive SSD: KESU Portable External SSD That said, it’s worth pointing out that SanDisk has released a 1TB USB-C flash drive at a very impressive price point (about 20% cheaper than the Extreme). If this isn’t available or is listed for say 30%+ the price of our cheap/alternative choices, then go with the other models.Ģ023 update: The Extreme is still our comfortable top pick for this year, representing the best balance between speed, durability, and price. Quick note: As much as we love this SanDisk offering, flash drive availabilities are often quite sporadic. The Extreme PRO is comfortably our pick for the best 1TB pen drive available today If you are purchasing such a large storage solution, we think it’s a no-brainer that you’ll go with a trustworthy brand with great read/write speeds. The Extreme PRO’s design is sturdy (with aluminum reinforcement), includes SanDisk’s secure encryption software for sensitive data, and is fully USB 2.0 / 3.0 backward compatible. For only a little bit more than our cheaper options, you’re getting a pen drive from arguably the best storage brand in the game, with fantastic read and write speeds (up to 420 and 380 MB/s respectively). This is where this SanDisk 1TB USB flash drive shines. Now, if you’re not particularly bothered about speeds, you can go to our cheap/budget picks further below.īut when purchasing such a large drive, we think it’s worth paying a tiny bit extra for a device that can transfer masses of data at a fantastic rate. But remember, the FBMessengerUnseen will work only on Facebook Messenger app and the messages read on official Facebook client will still send out the read receipt.įBMessengerUnseen is available on ModMyi repo of Cydia and its free. The trick here is, FBMessengerUnseen always keeps the messages as unread in the messenger app, so the sender will never receive the read receipt. Once the tweak is installed, it automatically makes changes to the Facebook Messenger app. A new jailbreak tweak called FBMessengerUnseen, allows you to read any message on Facebook Messenger app without the sender knows that you have read it. 6- How to Turn off Read Receipts on Facebook Messenger As you may know, Instagram and Facebook are twin social media platforms these days. But if you had jailbroken your device, then you are on luck. In the similar line, Facebook has introduced a new feature in its messenger app – the read receipt, which is an invasion of user’s privacy. For example, you can name the timeline feature which is still below the appreciable line. To avoid these scenarios you need to turn off Facebook messenger read receipts and for that reason we have listed methods and way by which you can do so on different platforms.Facebook keeps introducing new features, while some were welcomed by users and some thrown to the other extent. Replying to a conversation can become a hassle when you are busy or not in the right place to reply and this can create same awkward situations for not answering quickly. Is it possible to turn off read receipts on both ends on Facebook messenger I recently saw a study that shows that knowing when your message has been read causes more stress. Of course, users can always tag their friends in the comment sections of videos, but some opt for the privacy of a message. TikTok direct messages are a way for users to share videos and hold private conversations within the app. The same will happen, server would not be able to tell if the message has been read or not therefore the other person will not see the read receipt. TikTok messages have a read receipt option which allows users to see if their messages have been viewed.
![]() The most likely explanation for this avian balancing act is that it helps them conserve body heat. While we can confidently explain why flamingos have pink feathers, there are competing theories about another of their distinctive characteristics – why they stand on one leg. ![]() įor more information on flamingos, wacky animal behaviors, bird anatomy and related topics, flock to the links on the next page. With their flamboyant feathers and elaborate mating dances, flamingos are one of the most recognisable animals on the planet. Some scientists think this locking mechanism might be the key to a flamingo's incredible balancing act. That ankle has something a human ankle doesn't - the joint actually snaps shut to literally lock the foot-to-leg junction in place. The knee is so far up on the leg, it's usually hidden by the body. A flamingo's ankle is where you'd expect the knee to be - near the middle of the leg. But there's an interesting anatomical mechanism that may help explain how they do it. So nobody is sure exactly why flamingos do it. Shrimp, mollusks and algae don't seem to spend much time looking out for hungry birds. This theory would make more sense if the flamingo's prey were a bit more sight-driven, though. A flamingo on one leg could resemble a tree with a thin trunk leading to a much bigger top - especially when seen from in the water, which is where a flamingo's prey lives. A lagoon has lots of long, thin objects in it, including reeds and small trees. There are many scientists who think flamingos keep just one leg in the water in order to better camouflage themselves. The leg controlled by the side of the brain that's awake stays on the ground to maintain balance while the other leg and foot get to rest up for a while.Īnother common theory relates equally to both warm and cool climates. If flamingos, too, keep half their brain awake while they sleep, that could explain why they sleep on one leg. Ducks have also been known to stand on one leg for long periods of time (along with herons, storks and geese). Many animals, including dolphins and ducks, only turn off one side of their brain at a time when they sleep. Some experts think the one-leg balancing act might have to do with a flamingo's brain. Since flamingos alternate which foot they've got in the water, this theory does seem possible, but it's not terribly popular. ![]() This is where one of the theories comes from: Maybe flamingos stand on one leg to dry their other foot off. Well, wading birds have the same problem. If you stood in the water all day, what would happen to your skin? You'd look like a prune, most likely. James Randklev/Photographer's Choice/Getty Images So why do flamingos do it? On the next page, we'll look into some of the most common theories. It seems like sleeping would require both legs on the ground for balance - since the animal is unconscious. They stand on both legs to eat, but on one leg to sleep. What's left is the flamingo's food, usually algae and small crustaceans. The water and mud flow through, getting pumped out the sides of the beak. The top and bottom of the beak have bristles that intertwine when they meet, forming a comblike filtering mechanism. Or sort of fishing: Flamingos stick their heads in the water upside down and suck mud and water in through the front of their beak. Imagine hundreds of birds with their heads under water, fishing. They're very social, sleeping, preening their feathers and eating together. Flamingos are always in groups, anywhere from a few birds to a few hundred or even thousands, and they live on every continent except Australia and Antarctica. The color comes from the food they eat, including shrimp, which is full of carotenoid pigments (the same thing that makes carrots orange). It's startling to see a large group of pink, red or vermillion birds standing in a shallow pond. They're practically a city logo in Miami. Combine their height with their coloring, and flamingos are one of the most recognizable birds in the world. They range from 32 to 51 inches tall (81 to 130 cm), but they don't weigh much - just about 5 to 8 pounds (2 to 3.6 kg). Most large wading birds have the ability to stand on one leg, and flamingos are one of the biggest wading birds out there. But most of us have trouble standing one leg for 10 seconds, let alone four hours like flamingos do. It really should be easier for humans to stand on one leg than for flamingos. Humans are oriented vertically, with almost all of their weight in line with the center of gravity. It's an impressive ability, considering flamingos' legs are longer than their bodies, and most of their weight is oriented horizontally. ![]() But there are lots of theories on the subject. It's a puzzle to science why, exactly, flamingos stand on one leg so regularly. ![]() Open tread design provides mud evacuation. It will keep for up to 3 days in an airtight container but if you have it in the kitchen, it probably won’t last that long. Keep it at room temperature as you don’t want it to firm up too much. Place the tart on the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 25 - 30 minutes or until the centre is set. The result was quite a buttery and tasty tart which is delicious served with a generous pouring of cream, a dollop of clotted cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Voila! 25 minutes later, I have created something resembling a treacle tart, albeit a bit shallower than normal as some of the filling had leaked through the cracked crust. Tip: If you can’t get Golden Syrup, you can substitute with either corn syrup with a bit of added molasses, honey or even maple syrup, but this is much runnier. If you are looking for the more familiar recipe that uses breadcrumbs, you can find Nigel Slater’s here. (I know I will be a disaster if I ever did a GGBO). I filled my wonky tart case and put it back in the oven to bake, with fingers crossed. I followed the recipe to make the tart filling, which is just butter, eggs, lemon zest, lemon juice and double cream. But never mind, I just carried on, just like an experiment. On this occasion, I also over-baked it a bit and it was way too crumbly. I didn’t have any to hand and didn’t use any which resulted in a wonky tart base. Where my baking fails is when I take shortcuts or ignore instructions like “bake blind “using baking beans. A pastry case like this can then be used to make a savoury or sweet tart. Then this is blind baked before the filling is added. ![]() For this recipe, a plain unsweetened shortcrust recipe is ideal as you will get plenty of sticky sweetness from the filling. The next step to using a shortcrust pastry to make a tart base is to roll out the pastry and line the case. If you want to avoid the hassle, you can always use a good quality all-butter shop bought shortcrust pastry. The method is simply to use the “rub-in” method which I speed up by cutting up the butter in the flour with a knife before using the hands. The basic recipe calls for just flour and cold butter in the ratio of 2:1, a pinch of salt and a bit of water to bind the pastry. This is one of the easier pastries to make and I have used it successfully in a few other recipes documented here. This is sometime in the 1600’s where they used Treacle in the recipe as Golden Syrup had not been created yet. It was supposed to have been invented in Houghton Hall, his home situated between King’s Lynn and Fakenham. No one is really sure about its origin but it is also sometimes called the Walpole House Treacle Tart because of their association with Sir Robert Walpole, the first British Prime Minister. The Norfolk Treacle tart is not the same as the regular one that you are probably more familiar with. Even though the name suggests that treacle is used, the modern day recipe that we are more familiar with uses “Light Treacle” or Golden Syrup. It is said to have originated sometime in the late 1800’s after the invention of Golden Syrup in 1883. If you have a sweet tooth, you will love this sticky sweet pudding too. Treacle Tart is one of my favourite puddings and is also Harry Potter’s favourite too. ![]() ![]() We would advise going for “ concentric” as this places a single perimeter that is easy to remove and provides the structural strength to make sure the lithophane is stable. Generally, all patterns work except for the line and cross pattern. We use this set of 60 degrees to make sure the lithophane is supported and the overhangs can be properly printed. Usually, 3D printers can print overhang angles of over 60 degrees. This setting determines what angle supports should be placed. One of the most important settings to get right next is the “support overhang angle”. This will, in part, make sure that no supports are being generated inside the lithophane. Make sure the support placement is on the “touching build plate”. In Cura, you should first enable the supports. It often is just trying to find what works for you. However, these slicers should have similar settings. We will explain the settings for Cura as we do not use PrucaSlicer or Simpl圓D. So how to make sure it only places support at the right places? But for some lithophane shapes supports are needed, such as for the circular, Christmas star, and heart shapes. Normally you don’t want to use supports with a lithophane as it can automatically place supports in the lithophane which will screw up the lithophane. To make matter worse, even every plastic from different companies are different as well and require some tweaking in the slicer to get a satisfying result.įear not! We’ll go over the most important slicer settings for the most used slicers to help you get great lithophane prints! Every 3D printer is different and will therefore require different slicer settings. So much so that we cannot cover them all. There are many factors that are very important in creating a successful print. It converts your 3D model (STL file) into a file format the 3D-printer understands (code file) where instructions for the 3D-printer are stored. This is just the basics of what a slicer does. The 3D printer must specifically be told to move from one position to another position while extruding (pushing out) a certain amount of plastic. This must be done because your 3D printer does not understand what it should do with a 3D model. Slicers “slice” your 3D model into many layers and lines. There are multiple slicers out there but they essentially, down to their core, all do the same. |
